Extensive research has confirmed that reishi, or Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms, may have promising anti-cancer properties. Components found in them, such as polysaccharides and saponins, play a key role in inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells, particularly in cancer-affected lungs. Researchers have identified that the mechanism of action of these substances is the induction of apoptosis, or programmed death of cancer cells, which is a direct effect of the aforementioned compounds.
The composition of reishi also includes beta-glucan, a substance that potentiates the immune system by increasing the number of T lymphocytes and macrophages. This makes these mushrooms particularly valuable not only during periods of increased susceptibility to infection, but also during chemotherapy, when the body's immunity is significantly reduced. Reishi mushrooms are also indicated as support in combating chronic fatigue syndrome.
In addition, experiments have shown a beneficial effect of these mushrooms on diabetic patients, lowering blood sugar levels. This suggests that reishi extracts may reduce the activity of enzymes in the liver responsible for glucose production. Also in the context of diabetic complications affecting the kidneys, reishi have shown potential in preventing or slowing their progression.
Reishi mushrooms, also known as Ganoderma lucidum, have a positive effect on mood, acting similarly to antidepressants. Studies have shown that the polysaccharides in reishi have anti-inflammatory and immune system modulating properties, which may be effective in treating severe forms of depression. These compounds may also interact with neurotransmitters, including serotonin, helping to improve mood and alleviate symptoms of depression. Experiments conducted, including one involving women struggling with fibromyalgia, indicate significant improvements in mood and overall life satisfaction after using reishi.
